Celebrated hip hop icon Doctor Dre, known for being the co-host of “Yo! MTV Raps”, has lost his vision due to diabetic complications.
As noted by ABC News reports, the Long Island native made his mark on radio, television and in the movies as a DJ, composer, and program host. He is now battling type 2 diabetes, which has already robbed him of a toe.
Dre, who hosted Yo! MTV Raps from 1989 to 1995, spoke to WABC about complications stemming from his struggle with diabetes. “I had my retinas reattached, so I didn’t go totally blind from the diabetes. In the reattachment, I have scar tissue behind my eyes, so when that kind of fluctuates, my vision comes back,” he said.
Some comments would go on to read:
“I mean, when your 5’9 vertically and 5’6 horizontally what the fuck did he think was gonna happen, Diabetes is no joke, this dude has been big his whole life, at some point you gotta take care of yourself and be accountable.”
Another added, “I can’t feel bad for a dude who didn’t take his health seriously and want to talk about Diabetes and losing his vision but didn’t want to fast or give up meat to save his self. I don’t wish this on anyone but at the same time it’s like come on bro!”
A third noted, “People need to learn to live a fasting focused lifestyle. It’s not really about how much you eat but how frequently. You can still enjoy food just let your digestive system have a break.”
