Allen Iverson may be having a hard time getting another gig dribbling down an NBA court, but he may have some luck getting paid to dribble down a field. A Major Indoor Soccer League is offering the former Sixer $20,000 per game and a $5,000 bonus for every goal scored if he switches to soccer, reports CBS Sports.
The Rochester Lancers announced their desire for the man, that is a bit short for a basketball player (standing at 6-feet) but just right for a soccer player, in a press release Saturday. Allen Iverson is one of the premier athletes of our time,” Lancers vice president Rich Randall said in the press release, according to CBS Sports. “With his athleticism and competitive hunger, I think he can be a great fit with our team and fans as we make an important playoff push, while also driving interest to an exciting, growing sport.”
The indoor soccer team added a bit more incentive by saying they would host Iverson’s family and friends anytime they come to visit.
The former NBA Rookie of the Year (1997) and Most Valuable Player (2001), has made no indication that he would be interested in playing soccer and reports say Iverson has been considering playing basketball in Puerto Rico, according to CBS Sports.
Iverson played both football and basketball when he attended Bethel High School in Virginia. There’s no record of him playing soccer. CBS Sports speculates that the soccer team’s offer could simply be an attempt to get some publicity.

Kobe Bryant lashed out at Los Angeles Lakers management Sunday night for leaving teammate Pau Gasol wondering whether he’s about to be traded. In a postgame monologue punctuated by a couple of profanities, Bryant said the Lakers either need to trade Gasol or come out and say it won’t happen.
Bryant’s comments came in the aftermath of a 102-90 loss at Phoenix on Sunday night. He said he doesn’t want Gasol to be traded but it’s unfair for his teammate to try to play when he doesn’t know if he’ll be somewhere else the following day.
As Bryant put it: “If they’re going to do something, I wish they would just … do it.”
“Listen, he’s been the consummate professional,” Bryant said. “He’s going out and he’s trying to do what he can. But let’s be real. If you didn’t know you were going to be here tomorrow, if your head’s on the chopping block and you feel like you’re just waiting, it’s tough to put all yourself in the game.”
Trade rumors about Gasol have circulated since the team thought it had shipped him to New Orleans in a three-team deal before the season that would have brought Chris Paul to the Lakers. But NBA Commissioner David Stern blocked the trade.
“It’s hard for Pau because of all this trade talk and stuff,” Bryant said, bringing up the subject even though no one asked him about it. “It’s hard for him to kind of invest himself completely or immerse himself completely into games when he’s hearing trade talk every other day. I wish management would either come out and either trade him or not trade him.”
Bryant said the Lakers have the foundation for another run at the NBA title with Gasol, who had 17 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to Phoenix.
“It obviously starts with myself and Pau and the emergency of Andrew (Bynum),” Bryant said, “but you can’t have one of our pillars not knowing if he’s going to be here or not. Do something. One way or another, do something. If they trade him at least you have some type of closure, he gets some type of closure.”
Bryant, as usual, was the last player to speak to reporters Sunday night. Gasol had already left after talking about the game but mentioning nothing about a potential trade.

ESPN said Sunday it fired an employee and suspended an anchor for using “offensive and inappropriate comments” in its coverage of Asian-American Knicks phenomenon Jeremy Lin. The moves come after ESPN apologized for a headline that appeared on ESPN.com’s mobile website following the Knicks’ 89-85 loss to the New Orleans Hornets on Friday.
The phrase, which carries obvious racial overtones when used in reference to a person of Asian descent, appeared on the site for more than 30 minutes before being removed at around 3:05 a.m. ET on Saturday. The expression was also used by ESPN anchor Max Bretos on Wednesday when he asked a question about Lin’s weaknesses during an interview with Hall of Fame guard Walt Frazier.
Following the Knicks’ 104-97 victory over the Dallas Mavericks on Sunday, Lin addressed the situation. “They’ve apologized and so from my end, I don’t care anymore,” Lin told the New York Daily News. “You have to learn to forgive, and I don’t even think that was intentional.”
ESPN announced Sunday that it had fired the employee responsible for the headline and was suspending an anchor for 30 days for “offensive and inappropriate comments” used during its coverage of Lin.
ESPN did not release the names of the two employees, but Bretos had made it clear on Twitter late Saturday that he was the anchor responsible and apologized for his comment, saying he did not mean it in a racial sense and that his wife was Asian.
“Wanted 2 apologize 2 all those I have upset. Not done with any racial reference. Despite intention, phrase was inappropriate in this context,” Bretos wrote. “My wife is Asian, would never intentionally say anything to disrespect her and that community. “I have learned from this will make every effort to avoid something similar happening again.”
Lin, the first Asian-American to start an NBA game and an adopted hero in China, committed nine turnovers in the Knicks’ loss to the Hornets at Madison Square Garden on Friday night. Lin, however, still showed flashes of brilliance in the game, scoring 26 points and dishing out 5 assists.

Filmmaker and passionate New York Knicks fan Spike Lee has come out swinging against boxer Floyd Mayweather who earlier charged that Jeremy Lin is attracting a lot of attention because of his race, not necessarily his basketball skills.
Lin, the son of Taiwanese immigrants and graduate of Harvard University, has become the talk of the sports world and the toast of Broadway through his brilliant play over the last two weeks, after riding the bench most of his brief career in the NBA. He is one of the first American-born Asian to play in the league.
On Monday, Mayweather posted the following comment on his Twitter account: “Jeremy Lin is a good player but all the hype is because he’s Asian. Black players do what he does every night and don’t get the same praise.” Mayweather claimed he was only standing up for black NBA players.
The 54-year old director, perhaps best known for his films “Malcolm X” and “Do the right thing,” also added: “Floyd Mayweather Sounds Like Rush Limbaugh When He Talks About Jeremy Lin Saying He’s Only Getting Attention Because He’s Asian. WAKE UP YO.”
Interestingly, Mayweather’s chief boxing rival and nemesis Manny Pacquiao, who is Filipino, wrote on his Twitter account: “God Bless Jeremy Lin.” Lee also spoke to MSNBC-TV about the ‘Linsanity’ phenomenon.
“Don’t try to explain it, dissect it,” Lee said. “We’re just in the middle of it and enjoy it. Especially if you are a Knick fan It’s a great American story. A great American story.” Lee, who woore a replica of Lin’s high school basketball jersey for Friday’s game at Madison Square Garden, continued to praise the 23-year-old wunderkind.”The [Knicks] has been put in the hands of this guy who really has only played seven really meaningful games in his basketball career,” Lee said. “The guy they overlooked all this time, he became the guy that’s now the international hero. It’s amazing. Everywhere in the world, they are talking about Lin. Something has happened that there’s no explanation for.”

Maybe Lakers star Kobe Bryant figured out its cheaper to keep her lol! Although Vanessa Bryant filed for divorce in December, she attended Kobe’s basketball game against the Atlanta Hawks the other night aka Valentine’s day! After the game the two were caught kissing on their way to the locker room. They’ve already sealed the property settlement deal in which Vanessa got all 3 Newport Beach estates.
But sources say don’t be surprised if she goes back to Kobe. And, although Kobe and Vanessa have submitted all the necessary divorce papers, it doesn’t become final until mid-June, so there’s plenty of time to withdraw the divorce.

Last time we discussed a potential return to the NBA’s hardwood for Allen Iverson, anything seemed possible. The humbled former superstar said as recently as November that he was looking for work anywhere stateside, and he sounded more than willing to put in the hard work necessary.
Just as long as that hard work doesn’t constitute polishing his skills in the D-League. We’ve learned the Los Angeles Lakers offered AI a spot on their farm team, the L.A. D-Fenders but he turned it down!
Critics say Iverson doesn’t have the right to be picky at this point in his career. He’s currently playing for a Turkish team. The clout that surrounded his name five years ago has vanished, and, no matter how he sees himself, he definitely has something to prove to NBA coaches.
Should he be given another chance, Iverson offering 50% of what he was in his prime can still make a difference on the floor. But behavior like this only widens the gap between that scenario and reality. I love Iverson, and want to see him go out on top. But if he keeps biting the hand that feeds, that’s never going to happen.
