Method Man Discusses Dave East Playing Him In ‘Wu-Tang: An American Saga’ Series

(AllHipHop News) Harlem emcee Dave East is set to take on his first major acting role when he stars in the upcoming Wu-Tang: An American Saga. East was chosen to play Method Man in the Hulu series about the highly influential Hip Hop group.

While on the latest episode of GQ‘s “Actually Me” digital series, Method Man answered a Twitter user’s question about East portraying a younger version of Clifford M. Smith. The Tical album creator explained why the 30-year-old New Yorker was selected for the show.

“This has come up a lot. I cannot play myself as young myself, it wouldn’t even look right,” responded Meth. “I saw it as an opportunity for somebody that’s like myself when I first got into it, ’cause there weren’t a lot of people giving you the chance to show that you can do it.”

He continued, “So when I seen Dave’s name in the pot, I was like, ‘Yeah, he’s just like me and he wants to be an actor, f*ck it, give him his shot.’ Your question has no validity, as far as, I go.”

Wu-Tang: An American Saga is set in 1990s New York City. Method Man and Robert “RZA” Diggs are credited as executive producers for the program. Fellow Wu members GZA, Ghostface Killah, Inspectah Deck, Masta Killa, and the Ol’ Dirty Bastard estate are consulting producers.

Oscar and Emmy winner Brian Grazer is attached as a producer as well. Chris Robinson (The New Edition Story) is directing the pilot episode. Shameik Moore, Erika Alexander, Ashton Sanders, Siddiq Saunderson, Marcus Callender, and Zolee Griggs join Dave East in the cast.

“This opportunity to continue the Wu saga in a 10-episode series will exponentially increase our inspirational style of entertainment. In the immortal words of ODB, ‘Wu-Tang is for the Children,'” stated RZA.
